Looking for modern fashion essentials to update your wardrobe this season? I just refreshed my wardrobe with several new pieces from Commense after being lured in by their well placed Instagram ads.

From someone who’s been in the fashion blog business for years (reviewing dozens of brands season after season) here’s the scoop on how Commense clothing ranks in quality, materials, style and versatility.

Package arrived, opening the box… I was actually surprised how good each piece looked from my first haul! The affordable retail prices (with an average range of $25-$80) had me wondering if Commense was going to fall somewhere just above the SHEIN category of products, but far from true.
If you’re wondering if Commense clothing is legit the simple answer is that you’re going to enjoy a good value product at an affordable price point. Woohoo!

Commense fabrics and manufacturing aren’t perfect, but they’re a decent quality and a good value at their price point.
Upon first glance, stitching was fairly even, with no irregular lines, loose strings or weird raw or wrinkled edges at the seems. The clothing didn’t seem to be sewn together haphazardly–all of which are common quality issues with lower price point items (even from some of the major retail brands). However, they’re not perfect. Upon closer inspection, there were some rougher looking areas (especially on inside seams). However, nothing very visible from first glance.

One of several pieces I purchased separated at the seam after one wash.
However, it seems to be an isolated issue after further wear, and I was able to repair the damage with a needle and thread in about 5 minutes.
I’m excited I’ve found a brand that’s up on the trends and priced at a value I can feel good about doing some seasonal shopping from.

Commense materials including poplins and knits look more expensive than their affordable price point.
Aside from sewing quality, nothing cheapens a piece of clothing like low grade materials. I see this especially common in knits at this price range, and with an online cart full of sleeveless knits for summer, I was a little concerned. Happy to say, the knits, poplins, and mix of fabrics are all good quality! If you’re like me and zoom in on photos to try to get a better idea of what to expect in your materials, the product looks really accurate to the photos.

The knits are not overly shiny or thinner than pictured. There were no loose stitches or pulls in the fabrics. The poplin was robust and crisp. The materials were a decent weight, felt great to the touch and have a nice, quality texture.
I’ve also washed a few pieces already, and so far no pilling, fraying or other low quality fabric concerns (aside from one sweater tearing slightly at the seam).

Keep in mind, while a good value for the price, Commense isn’t a luxury brand. So if you’re accustomed to purchasing at a $200-300 price range, you’ll notice several differences in overall quality. But to the average eye, these are good quality pieces that will last longer than your average fast fashion, and I would expect to get at least a few seasons of heavy wear out of each piece.
Some Commense pieces are so good in fact, I expect will even stand the test of longevity in quality and style, joining my collection of perennial fashion essentials.

Commense clothes are on trend, but not too trendy.
Commense offers a range of products that nod to many of the season’s trends, with a wide assortment of pieces that are not too trendy (erring on the side of really fast fashion).
Not to say they don’t have some of those instant gratification items on the site, but an experienced eye for fashion can also spot out several pieces that are updated essentials with classic details that transcend fast fashion with a bit more longevity in mind for the conscious shopper.

I’ve been working in fashion for over a decade, and I’ve (finally) learned to avoid (most) fast fashion gimmicks. This is an important factor to shop within your means and still feel like you can refresh your style each season. Still gutting out relics of my past, I have an admittedly oversized range of pieces I no longer wear, many of which I have barely worn at all. Working towards a healthier balance of seasonal and perennial pieces (we will save more on that for another post)…
Commense meets the check mark of pieces I’m excited to wear now, and will continue to love and re-style for seasons to come.

For example, I purchased a pair of wide leg, pleated trousers that I’ve ready styled several ways. It’s a piece I know I will get a lot of wear out of this season through fall and winter, and that will continue to be a core essential for years to come.
The fabric is a bit lightweight, but it makes them really comfortable even in the summer, and they steam quickly for easy wear. While I’m styling with tanks and lightweight knits for summer, it will transition well with a suit coat, chunky knits or crewnecks for fall and winter. And while trends on tailed pants too evolve over time, it’s at a slower pace, so I know I will get wear out of these for years to come.

A poplin shirt never goes out of style, and the big longevity factor here is mainly cut and material quality.
This coordinating set has a double value with two versatile pieces and while the shorts may be a faster trend, they’ll always be great for comfortable loungewear, and the poplin shirt could last a decade with good care.

Would I buy them again? The short answer is yes. I’m looking forward to bookmarking Commense as a go-to site for trendy fashion that’s good value for the price range.
While it’s clear they work with factories to label pre-designed products (since you can find some pieces elsewhere), the price is still good for what it is, and I really appreciate a source of well curated pieces where I don’t have to sort through 20 pages of Amazon to find one decent article of clothing (which is still sus to say the least).
